The Guangzhou motor show


The Guangzhou Motor Show 


The Guangzhou motor show 2014, which got underway this week and runs until 29 November, is the second-largest show in China after the alternating event that’s shared between Shanghai and Beijing.
The Guangzhou show is not as important as Beijing/Shanghai, but with China a major market for international manufacturers, it is still important on the world stage.
Record range of models on display and global premieres The ongoing annual Guangzhou auto show shows its power in the south with record-high 1,095 models on display and 56 world premieres
 The Volkswagen, General Motors, Ford and Hyundai are all showing their latest products in addition to the usual high-profile presence by Honda and Toyota, which have Guangzhou as their base of operations in China. Premium brands including Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Volvo and Infiniti as well as super-luxury brands Bentley, Ferrari, Rolls Royce, Maserati and McLaren also showcase their sleek models to attract increasingly affluent Chinese customers.

A highly modified version of the latest Ford Mustang, called Rocket and dubbed as the "ultimate muscle car" by its creators, has been unveiled today at the LA motor show. 


super car newsConceived by former Aston chief designer Henrik Fisker and Beau Boeckmann, boss of LA-based Galpin Motors, the world's biggest Ford dealer.
The Rocket is based off the latest 2015 Mustang, but the entire exterior design has been substantially reworked by Fisker.
taking their inspiration from the 1968 Shelby GT500. The Rocket's design also emphasizes its scalloped sides, which run back to functional ducts at the rear to cool the Brembo Grand Turismo brakes. And the Rocket employs a 5.0-liter V8 with a Whipple supercharger which can be called to attention with a six-speed manual gearbox.

super car newsWhen he presented his concept drawings for the LP500 prototype to Nuccio Bertone, the latter exclaimed "Countach!", the Piedmontese equivalent to "F**k!". Seduced by the design and enthused by the reaction, Ferrucio Lamborghini decided the exclamation should stick.

The LP500 carried a 5.0L version of the 3.9L V12 that powered the Miura. 'LP' stood for Longitudinal Posterior, indicating the engine had been turned 90 degrees, with the transmission protruding into the cockpit where the driver had direct shift control. This configuration removed the need for complex and heavy linkages

The first production Countach came out in 1973 as the LP400. The 5.0L was abandoned after the engine exploded during testing. There wasn't enough time, manpower and money to develop a new engine with bigger bore and stroke. The production version therefore used the 4.0L V12.

LP400S


super car news Four years later, the company introduced the second variant of the model, the LP400S. This model added wider Pirelli tires that were covered in muscular but subtle arches. Three distinct series of LP400S were produced, with the first two series retaining ground-hugging low suspension and much of Gandini’s original beauty. Most desirable of all these was the initial Series I, a limited run of 50 cars that were equipped with the famous Campagnolo Bravo wheels, which were lovingly nicknamed “telephone dials” by enthusiasts.

Lamborghini's third major Countach revision came in March of 1985 at the Geneva Motor Show. The model was named after its new cylinder head which featured four valved per cylinder and it was known either as the Quattrovalvole or QV.

25th Annivesary

The 25th Anniversary Countach was introduced in 1988 to celebrate Lamborghini’s 25th anniversary. There were nearly 500 small differences between the 25th Anniversary edition and the Countach 5000 QV.
The body was subtly redesigned by Horacio Pagani, a man now known for supercars of his own name. The front bumper was redesigned to incorporate air intakes to help cool the front brakes, and the nose was slightly raised. The 25th Anniversary edition also received a new rear bumper. The most noticeable cosmetic difference was that the radiator air intakes that were directly behind the iconic scissor-doors were now body-colour, as they used to previously be finished in black. Underneath its skin, the car’s chassis received several updates to improve handling. The interior received many updates as well, with perhaps the most notable being the installation of electric-powered windows. Additionally, the seats were changed, power-adjustable seatbacks were added, the steering wheel was replaced, and a more robust air-conditioning unit was installed, amongst other minor updates.

The car was designed by Marcello Gandini at Bertone. Gandini drew inspiration and cues from two of his Bertone show cars from 1967, theLamborghini Marzal and the Jaguar Pirana
The Espada was a four-seater GT, and the mid-engined Miura. 1217 Espadas were made, making it the most successful Lamborghini model until the expansion of Countach production in the mid-1980s.
The Series I (1968-1970), Series II (1970-1972) and the Series III (1972-1978) are hard to distinguish. The changes that were employed were minor, and often were improvements to the mechanics rather than the aesthetics

The Espada was launched at the 1968 Geneva Motor Show. The original design of the dashboard was inspired by the Marzal concept car, and featured octagonal housings for the main instruments, topped by an additional binnacle for the secondary gauges. Wheels were Campagnolo alloys on knock-off hubs, of the same design seen on the Miura. The tail lights were the same units mounted on the first series Fiat 124 Sport Coupé

The Series II Espada was actually known as the 400GTE. It made its first appearance at the 1970 Brussels show. The most noticable difference on this car was the new dashboard layout. Rear seat passengers benefitted from additional ventilation and the addition of lighting mounted in the centre arm rest. Chassis numbers for Series II cars began with the number 8.
Ventilated brakes were added all around and a later running change brought new five-bolt wheels to replace the centre locking Miura rims. Lobro CVjoints were added to the rear halfshafts and power steering became optional. The big change came with the compression boost to 10.7:1 as on theMiura S. Power increased to 325bhp at 7500rpm.

super car newsThe Series III Espada was introduced at the 1973 Turin show. It can be recognised by a mildly restyled nose and taillights, and a chassis number beginning with the number 9. The ZF power steering system was improved and air conditioning became standard equipment. Spring and shock rates were altered and brake power was increased.
The most obvious visual difference was once again found in the dash area. This now wraped around the driver and the centre console became more upright at the front. A sunroof became optional as did a Chrysler TorqueFlite automatic tranmission. 55 Espadas were built with this automatic, 5 of which were RHDs.

Delivery of production cars began in 1967, and this first version of the car was known as the P400. Just as promised in the rolling chassis two years prior, it featured a 350-hp, 3929-cc V-12 cast with its 5-speed gearbox as a unit mounted transversely behind the seats, with engine and transmission sharing a common oil supply. Only 474 were built, with some believing that the first 100 or so cars were made with a thinner gauge steel and a resultant lower weight.



super car news An upgraded version, the Miura S appeared in the beginning of 1969, and 140 of these were built. The S models featured new Pirelli tires, an interior that is characterized by an overhead console with available air conditioning, and an uprated motor that now had 370 hp on hand. The third and final variant of this supercar was the Miura SV, of which 120 were built. The SV had widened rear bodywork in order to accommodate larger tires, and as expected, further engine modifications yielded 385 hp. The SV can be readily identified by its lack of fins, or "eyebrows" around the headlights, and the later SVs also finally had a separate oil supply for the transaxle and engine, eliminating the potential for gearbox metal circulating through the engine.
